The Division of Information Technology (it.gwu.edu) is the chief provider of technology infrastructure, services and applications at GW. The Division partners with stakeholders across GW to equip students, staff and faculty with the technology know-how and tools necessary to achieve academic excellence. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Network Operations and Security Systems this position supports the Division's Communications Technology and Support Services Department and is responsible for the following: Provides Tier 1 Support
The position is based on the GW Foggy Bottom Campus in NW Washington D.C. but may require travel to the Virginia Science and Technology Campus (VSTC), located in Ashburn, VA periodically. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Manages the overall administration of the GW Information Network, to include recommending standards for protocols, electronic interfaces, electronic mail and network management software.,
Designs information networks for the distribution of administrative, academic and research data throughout the University, which includes developing specifications for electronic equipment necessary for data communications and selection of appropriate equipment for purchase.,
Monitors the network for traffic volume, rates of transmission, reliability and maintenance problems.,
Provides training to subordinate Information Systems Technicians and Coordinators regarding the use of test equipment, diagnostics, repair and maintenance procedures and the installation of network components.,
Provides escalation support for lower-tier support teams during the troubleshooting and repair of localized or individual production service issues.,
Maintains a broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, computer/network systems, architectures, and products.,
Supports the planning and execution phases of IT projects by providing knowledge, collaboration and technical implementation of planned tasks.,

Ensures the proper documentation, configuration, deployment, operation and maintenance of network devices, servers and applications that provide and support data network services to the University.,
Evaluates future network requirements and develops and recommends budget submissions accordingly.,
Attends internal meetings to provide input and recommendations on issues that have an impact on the GW Information Network.
The incumbent generally performs job duties in a normal business office environment. This involves working while sitting at a desk for extended periods of time. The job also includes significant event planning and execution, which requires a significant level of physical activity, including standing, walking, and occasionally lifting office supply items that may weigh up to 20 pounds. Additionally, the incumbent may be required to attend meetings in other offices, or deliver and/or retrieve information from other offices around campus.
The ability to operate basic office equipment such as personal computers, duplicating machines, fax machines and standard office telephones may also be required.
