Job Posting: This position will be responsible for supporting the pharmacist in daily operations. The Pharmacy Support Specialist's primary role is to assist the pharmacist and physicians in the processing of medication refill requests by preparing the requests for review and approval/denial by the pharmacists working under protocol on behalf of the physicians, and by the physicians themselves. In this capacity, the Pharmacy Support Specialist gathers and prepares information from patient records for pharmacist and/or physician review in determining the appropriateness of medication requests. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Support primary care physicians by preparing prescription refill request for review and approval/denial by the pharmacist working under protocol on behalf of the physicians and/ or by the physician. Conduct chart or laboratory searches as necessary and transcribe relevant information to the refill encounter; Communicate pertinent information to pharmacist and/ or prescribing physician; Ensure that each refill request is documented in the patient's chart; Monitor and respond to e-mail and electronic medical record inbox/in-baskets messages and other communications in a timely manner throughout the work day; Resolve pharmacy conflict on behalf of the physician; Assist in obtaining prior authorizations from insurance plan; Record results for month-end reports; Assist with data management as necessary; Assist with chart reviews for Drug Utilization Evaluation (DUE) studies; Assist with organizing DUE data by creating Excel spreadsheets and charts; Perform additional duties as assigned.
