The Light Brigade, a division of AFL, is the world’s leading fiber optic training company having trained over 45,000 students in its public and customized classes. The curriculum covers the entire spectrum of fiber optics from basic theory and design to maintenance and testing, through advanced topics such as FTTx, DWDM, SONET, PMD/CD, and fiber-optic video transmission. Each year, the Light Brigade offers over 160 training courses. The Light Brigade also produces professional quality educational DVDs. The company is headquartered in Tukwila, WA. The Light Brigade is seeking an Instructor for a full time position which can be located anywhere within the United States. The Instructor will be the main instructor for fiber optic training classes including delivery of the technical presentation content and skills hands-on training labs. Responsibilities also include directing and mentoring technicians when student count exceeds 7-8 students. Instructor must insure that knowledge base and training provided to students are at its highest levels so that student’s needs are met. Provide direction to students for future training and product needs. Instructors are the first contact for student, so attitude and knowledge from Instructor must be professional.Responsibilities:* Deliver training class presentation material and technical content in a knowledgeable and professional manner* Manage all equipment and materials required for classes and pack and ship as instructed* Ensure students understand and use all class equipment correctly* Manage all aspects of multi-day training classes, including keeping to content timing, time for skills training and certification review and exam timing* Assure all consumable replacements are identified and all required paperwork is submitted accurately and on time* Make sure UPS shipping procedures are followed so equipment arrives at the next location* Understand the technology applications in order to meet student needs and answer questions* Direct students to correct channels for after class product or future training needs* Travel to training classes – typically 3 consecutive weeks then 1 week at home* Keep up to date on current fiber technology trends* Provide ongoing technical research and project work as assigned when not training
* Associates degree or minimum of 10 years of experience* Expertise in various aspects of fiber optic technology* Field experience with fiber optic or other communications infrastructure* Training or teaching experience a plus* FOI, FOT-OSP, CFOT, or CFHP certifications are a plus, but not required. Personal Qualities:* Excellent oral skills and people skills* Able to adapt quickly to customer needs for classes with different experience levels or expectations* Truly love to teach and share your knowledge* Enjoy travel – this is a travel intensive position* Able to learn new products and procedures quickly* Professional and positive outlook* 100% Reliable
