Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the candidate will conduct experiments in the context of antibacterial drug discovery projects, with a major emphasis on culturing human memory B cells, cloning and expressing antibody sequences from these cells, and performing large-scale protein expression and purification. Other job duties include record keeping, and writing reports for grant agencies and manuscripts for publication.
Minimum Education and Experience:
PhD degree in biology, microbiology, or pharmaceutical sciences
In-depth knowledge of immunology and molecular biology techniques is critical
Hands-on experience with bacteria is required
Experience with BSL3 pathogens, particularly Mycobacterium, is an asset
A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in related field of research is a plus
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Major responsibilities -Carry out experiments to isolate and characterize human monoclonal antibodies from memory B cells of infected subjects -Draft biosafety protocols and amendments -Train and supervise junior lab personnel -Write grant proposals, and develop independent research program -Write research reports, and present research results at national meetings -Organize electronic records, data files and databases related to studies and experiments. Assist in data analysis and presentation of findings at weekly team meetings
Other responsibilities o Participate in evaluation of existing procedures, suggest revisions where necessary, and propose new procedures where required. o Demonstrate good team spirit and communication skills o Keep informed of latest technology, methods and procedures related to research area o Coordinate equipment use and maintenance; archive equipment maintenance records o Responsible for submitting purchase recommendations to his/her supervisor o Assist with training fellows, medical students and lab technicians in laboratory techniques as directed. o Demonstrate perfect compliance with BSL3 rules and guidelines o Understand and adhere to Rutgers University’s compliance standards as they appear in Rutgers’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy
