Advertised Summary Job Description: The Chief Technician will work in Renal histopathology laboratory performing a wide range of histology techniques including but not limited to tissue processing, embedding, tissue sectioning ( paraffine and frozen) , staining ( H&E, specials, IHC, IF), and coverslipping. Analyzes, resolves, and trouble-shoots various day-to-day histology tasks as needed. Facilitates trouble-shooting and resolution of routine technical issues. Assist in setting up, evaluating, and trouble-shooting new techniques. Maintenance of laboratory equipment, which includes tissue processors, stainers, coverslippers, solvent recyclers, and other related equipment. Carrying out and maintaining QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintaining statistical records and other related laboratory records.
General Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and at least one year experience or Bachelor's degree and at least three years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Must have either NYS State Clinical Laboratory Technician, Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Histological Technician license .
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: 1. Ability to work independently, under minimal supervision 2. Knowledge of basic chemical and/or biological terminology and techniques 3. Knowledge of more sophisticated laboratory equipment 4. Ability to use statistics 5. Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner, in accordance with safety regulations 6. Ability to learn and adapt to new techniques 7. Ability to train lower-level technicians.
POSITION REQUIRES PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING.
Preferred Qualifications: HT/HTL (ASCP) certification or eligiblity preferred.
Experience with histological preparation for EM (electron microscopy) studies
