The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the position of Installer. There is one full-time vacancy. The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions that may occur in this assignment while the list remains active. Eligibility lists remain active for a minimum of six months.
Within the Communications Division of the Department of Public Works, this position is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing electronic communications equipment for public vehicles. This position assists division technicians in the construction, assembly, installation, repair, service and testing of the more complicated communications systems and equipment.
The ideal candidate has personal and professional integrity, is highly organized, possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, approaches their work with enthusiasm and demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service. The candidate has an electronics background and knowledge of basic electronic theory, including Ohms Law, AC/DC theory, audio and radio frequency circuits, electronic measurements, semiconductor fundamentals, and mathematics for electronic technology. The ideal candidate uses sound independent judgment within established procedural guidelines, and is knowledgeable regarding the safe operation of hand and power tools used in facility and equipment maintenance and repair. In addition, the candidate is capable of climbing 60-foot towers, working independently for extended periods of time in remote locations, outdoors in any weather conditions and can work non-standard schedules including evenings, nights and weekends.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in Electronics or a related field or one year of full-time experience in the installation and repair of communications equipment that provides the necessary knowledge and ability requirements listed in the class specification. A Federal Communications Commission radio telephone operator’s license is highly desirable.
LICENSE: The duties for this position may require travel to various locations within the County to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on County business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Candidates will need to furnish a recent (within six months) DMV driving record at the selection interview.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff’s Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check prior to appointment.
