The Pharmacy Tech II provides a lead role and coordination of activities and student training of the Inpatient Pharmacy Services. Additionally, the technician staff fill first doses and batch doses for both IV and UD medications, refills automated dispensing machines, delivers medications to nursing areas, problem solves medication distribution issues with nursing staff, and performs maintenance and inventory functions.REQUIRED--Knowledge of the Hospital, Department and University Policies and Procedures--Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise.--Ability to prioritize workflow and job assignments.--Ability to develop the skills of others.--Ability to evaluate and recommend alternatives that enhance the areas' performance.--Ability to use proper aseptic technique.--Knowledgeable of maximum allowable concentration and dilution standards.--Ability to manipulate needles, syringes, ampules and vials using standard aseptic technique.--Knowledge of principles and applications for horizontal and vertical laminar air flow hoods.--Ability to stand for long periods of time with occasional lifting, stooping and bending.--Ability to enter detailed data into computer systems inluding but not limited to, Electronic Medical Record, Simplfi, CAPS, Automated Dispensing Units, via keyboard or touch screen.--Ability to keep accurate records and pay close attention to detail.--Basic knowledge of automated dispensing systems and controlled substance systems--Ability to push a cart carrying 200 pounds.--Ability to use metric system.--Ability to perform pharmacy calculations.--Ability to use pharmacy terminology.--Familiarity with hospital layout, names and location of patient care areas.--Knowledge and ability to comply with the guidelines for interpersonal skills.--Ability to operate a plain paper FAX/photocopier.--Ability to activate/deactivate voice mail, send messages and transfer messages to another user.--Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English--Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment and positivie working relationships for coworkers and customers.--Ability to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry or emotionally distressed.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
