The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and excels at deciphering the molecular mechanisms of life. It provides an unsurpassed environment for both new and established researchers. Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, creating a lively and international community for the exchange of ideas and technical innovation. The LMB has a strong track record in training Postdoctoral Fellows who have gone on to become leading Scientists. We also have an excellent record of innovative basic research leading to applications in medicine. Following our move to a new laboratory in 2013, we are able to provide state-of-the-art facilities in which innovative medical research, translation and collaboration can flourish.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in the group of Dr Ingo Greger to study AMPA-glutamate receptor complexes using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM).
This project builds on our recent work to apply cryo-EM to ionotropic glutamate receptors (Herguedas et al., Science 2016) and aims to obtain structures of AMPA receptor complexes. Candidates should have a PhD and experience with cryo-EM; expertise in membrane protein biochemistry would be a bonus.
Successful applicants will be awarded an 8-month Maternity Cover Postdoctoral Scientist position.
Working for the MRC provides a whole host of benefits including a final salary pension scheme, Benenden Healthcare membership and excellent holiday entitlement. You will also have access to employee shopping/travel discounts, on site sport and social facilities, as well as salary sacrifice cycle to work schemes and childcare vouchers.
If you are unable to apply online please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Closing date: 29 April 2018
Final appointments will be subject to a pre-employment screening.

About MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is one of the birthplaces of modern molecular biology and has played an important role in the development of many new techniques, most notably X-ray crystallography of proteins, DNA sequencing and monoclonal antibodies. The LMB has a clear goal of understanding biological processes at the molecular level, with the ultimate aim of using this knowledge to tackle specific problems in human health and disease. We aim to tackle difficult, long-term problems, which often require investment over many years. There are four scientific Divisions - Structural Studies, Protein and Nucleic Acid Chemistry, Cell Biology and Neurobiology. However, scientific collaboration between the different Divisions is extensive. Scientists are well supported by excellent scientific facilities and by the LMB Operations Group which maintains the core infrastructure and services of the institute. With the new laboratory the LMB provides an unsurpassed environment for both new and established researchers. Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, thus creating a lively and international community for the exchange of ideas and technical innovation.
