John Brown University, private, evangelical and Christian, seeks a faculty member/support technician in the department of visual arts to begin July 1, 2018. Faculty responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching two courses per semester which may include Color and Design, Drawing I, Art History, Computer Graphics, or other courses in the visual arts.
The Support Technician responsibilities include but are not limited to maintenance and supervision of the various studio lab areas, ordering supplies for the labs and training students how to safely use these spaces and equipment. Lab spaces currently include two darkrooms, cinema and photography studios, cinema and photography equipment check-out facilities, a large print-making lab, and a developing wood shop being created to support photography, fine art, and printmaking needs. Other areas of responsibility would include 3D printing, calibration of printers and monitors and some activities in the cinema editing and sound suites.
This is a full-time position and reports to the Visual Arts Department Head.
The Department of Visual Arts resides within the Division of Communication and Fine Arts and offers courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design, Art & Illustration, Photography, and Digital Cinema. The department has nine faculty members, over 200 students, three buildings, and hundreds of graduates employed in professional positions across the globe.
An MFA degree in the visual arts is preferred. Will consider candidates currently in an MFA program. Professional experience in the visual arts is essential. Also essential are successful teaching experience at the college level; commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desire to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities.
