Posting Summary: Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
The Instrumentation & Controls Technician will support the Automation Department's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, efficient and reliable monitoring and maintenance services for University building automation systems.
The Instrumentation & Controls Technician will install, troubleshoot and repair electric, electronic, and electro-mechanical equipment and controls that comprise and support the University's building automation systems.
Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Preferred Minimum Level of Education: Associate's Degree
Preferred Specific Degree/Training: Some post high school study/training in computer controls, mechanical systems or related technical fields preferred
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Experience with building/system automation controls, mechanical systems or related technical fields.
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Preferred Specific Experience: A minimum of two years of experience with building automation systems and controls, water distribution and HVAC mechanical systems, or related technical fields.
Required License or Certification: Valid Driver's license, with a positive points balance.
Preferred License or Certification: Certified Control Systems Technician preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Expertise in the operation and diagnosis of electrical solid-state control systems and modules. 2. Good working knowledge of electrical, basic electronic equipment, and controls as they relate to building automation systems. 3. Good oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Expertise in installation and programming of building automation controls.
