Under the general supervision of the Director of Technology Support Services (TSS) the Workstation Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and management of university owned computers, printers, and peripherals in both office and classroom environments. As a representative of the Technology Support Services department, excellent customer service skills are essential.
ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Installation, configuration, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and management of Windows and Mac based computers. Ensures a desktop and computer lab environment in which workstations maintain a high level of availability, effectiveness, and efficiency. Assists in the development of standardized desktop load sets for university supported computing environments. Receives new hardware platforms and installs standard IT management tools and various university owned software packages as required by user constituencies. Works closely with vendors, users and other IT staff members to integrate software and hardware for end-users.
Installs, configures, maintains, diagnoses, repairs, and manages Wintel and Macintosh hardware, printers, and other peripherals to the board level, as appropriate. Installs, configures, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs standard operating systems and software “load sets”, as defined by the Director of Technology Support Services Configures, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs workstation network configurations. Utilizes manuals and other resources to diagnose and resolve complex operational difficulties and/or hardware/software malfunctions. Reconfigures and tests installed systems as required. Performs troubleshooting and diagnostic analysis of network and computer problems in offices, classrooms, labs, and other university locations.
Actively participates in the collection and maintenance of information associated with the support of university technology resources. Assists in the collections and updating of inventory information for university-owned information technology assets. Completes necessary data input regarding problem resolution, service provision, and effort tracking in department service tracking system. Recommends and/or drafts improvements in workstation support procedures.
Provides consistent and high-quality customer services and support. Works with IT staff, customers, and management in a positive team-oriented manner. Communicates effectively with students, faculty, staff, and vendors in a positive, helpful and friendly manner. Collaborates with other Technicians, the Information Technology Help Desk staff, and other IT and university support groups to ensure an office and classroom environment in which services and equipment maintain a high level of availability,
System and Service Documentation. Assists in the creation and maintenance of TSS-related documentation on the IT website and through other avenues. Develops and maintains technical instructional documentation; such documentation will be intended for other IT professionals, not for training end-users.
Stays abreast of current computer and software technologies and integration processes between enterprise systems.
Participates with the TSS team in planning, training and professional development for the university.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
A basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical systems and equipment is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through an associate of arts degree in electronics, telecommunications, or industrial technology or equivalent education, training, and/or directly related experience.

This position will have a duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to victims of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence, and stalking as required by CSU Executive Order 1095
Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University’s liability coverage.
Able to lift 50 pounds to chest high with or without accommodation.
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
Compensation and Benefits:
