The Carolina Union Office of Event Services offers scheduling, event planning, admission and production services to over 800 student organizations, campus departments and off campus clients. Over 30,000 bookings are held yearly in the 160,000-square foot Frank Porter Graham Student Union building and other campus spaces reserved through the Office of Event Services. The Frank Porter Graham Student Union Building has approximately 40 reservable spaces, including one film/lecture auditorium, and one 5,670-square foot multiuse performance hall. The Office of Event Services supports several large programs annually including Fall Fest, Homecoming concerts, departmental commencements, and Orientation. This position is responsible for the long-range vision, strategic planning, day-to-day operations, and delivery of conference and event audio visual services for the Office of Event Services. The Audio Visual Manager oversees the maintenance, inventorying, upgrading, and delivery of lighting, audio, and video equipment for 2 dedicated performance venues, 26 meeting rooms, and off-site programs utilizing Union lighting, video, and audio gear. The Audio Visual Manager works with the Assistant Director of Event Services – Event Production and the Assistant Audio Visual Manager to ensure successful AV event support, keep current on event technology trends, maintain and update technical proficiencies, and supervise, train, evaluate, and hire 25 student tech staff. This position works within the larger team of the Office of Event Services and communicates on a regular basis at meetings, in EMS, and via email regarding event support needs and production updates.
STRATEGIC & OPERATIONALPLANNING
Work with the supervisor and Assistant Audio Visual Manager to create, update, maintain, and implement a 3-5 year strategic plan for event and conference audio visual services and equipment.
Ensure the short-term operational plan aligns with the strategic vision of audio visual services.
Ensure long-term operations and services are sustainable and in line with the Office of Event Services and Carolina Union's goals.
EVENTSUPPORT & SERVICEDELIVERY
Ensure high level of audio visual and customer service is provided to event and conferences supported by audio visual services.
Maintain familiarity with many campus venues and outdoor sites.
Ensure rental gear is successfully deployed and maintained.
Ensure appropriate event equipment, timelines, staffing for events during meetings are noted in EMS and for student technicians; working with the Reservation Office to make updates as needed.
Maintain audio visual and production equipment in Union performance spaces and meeting rooms
Oversee regular and preventative maintenance checks in venues and meeting rooms.
Ensure broken equipment is replaced in a timely manner
Education and Experience:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree preferably in the Theatre Arts, and some experience that provides the employee with the functional work experiences needed to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must have experience with student activities/programming groups
Must have knowledge of the operation of AV and lighting equipment used in live productions and conferences
Must have demonstrated ability to facilitate technical training
Must have knowledge and skill with computer applications such as reservations software, word processing, and electronic mail is essential
Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills including leadership, attention to detail, professionalism, initiative, teamwork, a positive attitude, and an ability to relate successfully with customers representing a wide variety of backgrounds and interests
Must have demonstrated abilities in management, event planning, and staff supervision
Must have ability to make fast, intelligent decisions based on established policies; ability to make appropriate adjustments as situations arise or change
Must have ability to work in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment
Demonstrated ability to manage high volume of assets across multiple venues, experience working in higher education setting, experience with Extron/Crestron technologies, experience working with EMS (Events Management System) or similar software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years of full-time employee supervision, 5 years of experience in the technical direction of events and conferences preferred.
