The purpose of this position is to support the Water Institute's web-based communications activities. This person will be part of the communications team and will work closely with all members to ensure that the various web activities convey the messaging and branding of the WI. The incumbent will be responsible for working with the team to integrate external WI sites into our primary site and maintaining the primary site. He/she will need to translate informational or marketing content into a functional website design; work with the team to support the growth and development of the site; and create platforms that will allow for the sharing of various WI data-sets with the public. The individual will also be responsible for the sending of electronic materials using various platforms and tools, including, but not limited to, the monthly newsletter, conference materials, and dedicated messages as well as responsible for maintaining a database of subscribers of digital communications. He/she will also be responsible for search engine optimization using a range of tools.
Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming, or - Bachelor’s degree with some computer related coursework from an appropriately accredited university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Journey level requires an additional six months experience - Advanced level requires an additional one year of experience.
This is a one-year time-limited position with possibility of extension.
Planning and Organizing: Ability to understand the WI's mission, objective and goals; ability to understand the internal workings of the communications team to further the WI's mission and take initiative to plan and organize daily tasks and able to complete tasks independently.
Project Management: Ability to understand the WI and project needs and work in conjunction with the communications team on delivery of web-based communications; ability to contribute ideas, recommendations and solutions to reach project goals.
Technical Knowledge: Understands standard and routine communication, design and visual arts principles and concepts for web-based communications; understands and applies a variety of standardized and commonly accepted design procedures and techniques for web based communication; understands and applies communication software programs and web-based platforms as well as use of other applicable technology and equipment; and keeps current with technical advancements and trends as they relate to web-based communications.
Technical Solution Development: Ability to design web-based communications to effectively convey WI messages and branding.
Technical Support: Ability to assist and advise on web-based communication needs and issues, and capable of troubleshooting issues as needed.
Prefer candidate with two to five years of graphic and web design experience;
Prefer candidate who can provide a portfolio of work that shows design skills, the ability to adhere to style guidelines, and technical proficiency;
Prefer a candidate who has some front/back-end development experience; and
Prefer a candidate who has proven experience with responsive designs that are easy to access and visually effective.
