CLASSE operates world class facilities and carries out research driven by Cornell faculty in the fields of beam physics, photon science, particle and astrophysics in order to expand scientific knowledge, educate students and inspire the public.
The Cornell Lab of Accelerator ScienceS and Education (CLASSE)has an immediate opening for an Electronic Assembler (Equipment Technician III) to assemble and solder various types of printed circuit boards, both through hole and surface mount technologies. Lay out and assemble wire wrap boards or point to point soldered circuits. Construct many types of cable assemblies including coaxial, ribbon, multi pair, and multi conductor along with connectors and terminations. Modify, repair and rework many types of circuits and systems including: multi-layer surface mount and through hole circuit boards, wire wrap circuit boards, and electronic equipment. Assemble and wire various types of chassis, enclosures, and panels.
Formal electronics training beyond a HS diploma of 1 to 2 years, two years college coursework, Associates Degree in electronics, military technician training, or equivalent.
This position serves many departments within CLASSE, therefore a service-minded individual is required.
One to two years of job-related experience soldering surface mount and through hole Printed Circuit Board assemblies.
Adaptability is very important as situations can change rapidly in this environment.
Cable construction experience utilizing various techniques including soldering, crimping and compression type fittings and connectors.
Experience with general wiring techniques for inner chassis wiring and point to point connections.
Ability to understand wire wrap instructions.
Basic computer skills needed.
Able to receive directions and to communicate effectively across all research groups in the department.
Work effectively and cooperatively within a team environment.
Basic electronics course work and electronics assembly course work or training preferred.
Specific training in electronics soldering techniques, quality control, and inspection preferred.
Ability to read circuit schematics desirable.
Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
