This position is in the Department of Otolaryngology. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Position is responsible for preparing, processing, cutting and staining histology sections to be diagnosed by a pathologist or investigator.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares histology sections by processing tissue and embedding, staining, and cutting prepared sections.
Performs special techniques such as immunohistochemical techniques and stains and cutting of frozen and paraffin-embedded tissue. Refines protocol to meet the needs of the antibody and tissue embedment.
Prepares all materials and chemicals and organizes all procedures for serial sectioning and staining.
Performs general maintenance of cryostat, tissue processor, embedding center, cleans and prepares staining set and conducts quality control.
Performs record keeping and clerical support functions. Possesses knowledge of processing of plastic-embedded tissue and interest in learning plastic sectioning for electron microscopy and its specialized techniques.
Equivalent of 2 years college education and 1 year experience as histology technician.
Experience in histology techniques and ability to use good eye hand coordination.
Knowledge of DNA/RNA/protein analyses, gel electrophoresis, enzyme assays desirable.
The hiring range for this position is $18.09 - $22.61 per hour.

Normal laboratory environment with exposure to some hazardous materials.
Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards.
Must be physically able to wear protective equipment.
Must be able to provide standard care to research animals.
