<p>(20%) Prospective Recruitment<br />? Review surgery schedule and evaluate prospective collections<br />? Meet with prospective researchers to evaluate needs and BLS/BioNet ability to add value<br />? Network with other departments and organizations to promote the advantages of BLS/BioNet involvement<br />? Contact and coordinate with prospective internal and/or external sample recipients<br /><br />(30%) Participant Enrollment<br />? Screen OR schedule for appropriate tissue collection for current projects/protocols per review of patient medical histories, obtain informed consent from patients.<br />? Enroll appropriate participants/patients for a specific protocol/project.<br />? Obtain informed consent if required by the protocol or verify that another party is responsible for consent.<br />? Notify the appropriate service area of BLS/BioNet collections<br />? Coordinate with gross room for an efficient collection within the prescribed time limits<br /><br />(30%) Tissue Procurement<br />? Evaluate current authorized researchers to distribute possible collections<br />? Be able to determine by grossly examining the tissue specimen appropriateness for researcher protocols<br />? Aliquot sample into appropriate media for research needs<br />? Distribute specimens as appropriate<br />? Transport specimens to and from Histology lab and effectively communicate with lab staff for most efficient utilization of resources<br />? Cryopreserve specimens for bio-bank/bio-repository if needed<br />? Prepare tissue for quality controls<br />? Coordinate after hours collections with multiple participants, by pager, e-mail, and/or phone contacts<br />? Sort and accession specimens for temperature controlled storage<br />? Reconcile inventory, retrieve and ship specimens<br />? Provide prompt, responsive customer service for researcher inquiries and service requests<br />? Maintain tissue procurement and quality control records<br />? Enter data into database<br />? Document activities to effectively capture time and resource expended<br />? Produce specimen reports and information<br />? Maintain and file records<br /><br />(10%) Workflow and Team Training<br />? Assist in training, scheduling, and coordination of the BLS/BioNet staff and student employees to accomplish daily activities and support researcher needs.<br />? Train new staff, including students, on BLS/BioNet policies, practices, and procedures.<br />? Assist with scheduling and coordinating the daily tissue procurement schedule. Ensure that schedules are met in a timely fashion.<br />? Provide service coverage in other BLS/BioNet areas as needed (i.e., Histology Lab, Digital Imaging Facility).<br /><br />(5%) Equipment and Supplies<br />? Maintain and monitor bio-specimen freezers and LN tanks<br />? Monitor inventory and order supplies to ensure uninterrupted workflow<br />? Assist with BLS/BioNet equipment assessment, installation, qualification, validation, monitoring, and maintenance.<br /><br />(5%) Procedure Development/Implementation and Process Improvement<br />? Document BLS/BioNet role in specific protocols<br />? Assist with development and documentation of BLS/BioNet work process and procedures.<br />? Assist with ensuring implementation of working orders, protocol specific instructions and all applicable regulations as they apply to bio-specimen collection, processing, storage and distribution/shipment.<br /><br />Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors: BLS/BioNet Manager and Medical Director.</p>
<p><strong>Required Qualifications (must be documented on application materials)</strong><br />? BA/BS in Nursing, Gross Room, Surgical Pathology, Histology, Biological Sciences or related field or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years<br />? Demonstrated/documented knowledge of medical terminology to screen for appropriate tissue collection and to abstract medical information from patient charts<br />? Proficient data entry and computer skills<br />? Fluency in English in order to explain consents to patients and families<br />? Ability to lift 50 lbs in order to lift freezer racks and transfer liquid nitrogen tanks as needed<br />? Demonstrated/documented excellent oral and written communication skills<br />? Demonstrated/documented excellent customer service skills<br />? Demonstrated/documented excellent work ethic and teamwork skills</p><p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong><br />? Bio-repository or laboratory work experience<br />? Experience working with patients and obtaining informed consent<br />? Experience with abstraction of medical information from medical charts<br />? Knowledge of universal precautions, lab safety procedures, and blood borne pathogens<br />? Experience with Microsoft Office software<br />? Working knowledge or ability to learn and utilize electronic databases<br />? Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively, good problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task<br />? Experience distinguishing and identifying human tissues<br />? Fulfillment of HIPAA training requirements</p>
