The Senior Audio Visual Services Technician provides on-site troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of multimedia audiovisual equipment and systems such as microphones, speakers, video screens, projectors, and video monitors in technology-enhanced classrooms at American University. This position supports major university and other high profile events in conjunction with the Assistant Director or on its own. This position provides videoconferencing and video streaming support for classroom instruction, presentations, and events. The incumbent also carries out first line fault repairs on AV equipment, provides technical support training in the use and maintenance of new equipment and technologies, and supervises part-time staff.
This position manages the complex AV systems valued in excess of $1,500,000.00. Classes and events supported by the position may number over 100 per week in at least 30 concurrent classrooms (twice the size of any current classroom spaces) and 10 event spaces/conference rooms. The position supports a portion of the over 20,000 events and classes supported by Audio Visual Services as a whole. This position is a lead team member, often working independently, on activities that support these events and classes and ensures the maintenance and reliable functioning of audio and video equipment. This is a 40 hour per week position.

A Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent in education, experience or training in in audio and video, electronics repair and computer applications. Master’s degree is preferred.
Demonstrated intermediate computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, digital media production and processing, and web-based conferencing and streaming technologies
Demonstrated expertise with live sound reinforcement
Experienced with both analog and digital connections and use of controls systems such as SP Controls, Extron
Excellent communication and analytical skills and the ability to work on all levels of management and customers
Strong customer service skills, ability to gain cooperation and motivation from others while managing competing priorities
Ability to provide solution sets for a broad customer or client base
Demonstrated ability to work independently, effectively plan and coordinate multi-task requirements, and effectively multitask and work in a dynamic, high intensity and rapidly changing environment
Staff management/supervisory experience, with the attendant skills of motivating, training, and allocating work to part time staff
Ability to accept criticism and deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations
Ability to lift, move, push/pull up to 50 pounds
Formal training in electronics and audio technology as part of bachelor’s degree program
