Job Requisition Number: 23631. This position involves professional engineering and engineering technician support as part of academic instructional lab and/or research projects and programs. Engineering activities include the design, construction, testing of experimental systems, operation of analytical systems, establishment of performance specifications, and documentation. Engineering Technicians may be assigned duties within a single discipline (e.g., electrical) or span a range of disciplines.
The incumbent provides professional engineering development and maintenance support of the facilities and equipment for the Marvell Nanofabrication Laboratory. The laboratory is a unique 15,000 sq. ft. ultra-clean, particle-free facility that houses over 170 pieces of semiconductor process equipment which serve the research needs of more than 500 researchers.
40% Under direct supervision, maintain many lab utility systems including the Process Cooling Water, Compressed Dry Air, and Acid Waste Neutralization System. Integrate with Building Manager and utility vendors to supply support and solutions to utility issues.
30% Under direct supervision, maintain and troubleshoot semiconductor processing and nanofabrication laboratory equipment. Respond to equipment problem reports filed by lab members. Define and maintain spare parts inventory for frequently needed items balanced with just in time parts availability.
15% Under direct supervision, install and configure computer based switching system to control equipment used in the laboratory. Integrate control system into all machines in the lab by determining a safe and effective way to disable the machine?s operation such that no unauthorized use can occur.
15% Under direct supervision, install, configure and calibrate sensors for the computer-based data acquisition system that monitors a cleanroom, the equipment contained therein, and the utilities that support the laboratory. Document installations, modifications, calibration procedures and maintenance procedures. Maintain a database of sensor information.?Basic knowledge associated with performing entry-level professional engineering functions. ?Knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the field. ?Requires analytical skills and must exercise strong attention to detail. ?Requires effective written and verbal communication skills. ?Analytical and judgment skills to conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations. ?Ability to work in a collaborative manner. ?Familiarity with hand and power tools along with basic construction experience. ?Basic understanding of electronics and signals. ?Basic chemistry knowledge, specifically dealing with pH and neutralization. ?Bachelor?s degree in related area (Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics) or proven experience in equipment and facilities support.
