Rockwell Automation's Industrial Components Business is seeking a staff-level electrical engineer, with complimentary experience in the mechanical and firmware disciplines, to lead a number of complex research and next generation portfolio investigations. Candidate must have experience in sustaining independent and innovative engineering activities, demonstrated through significant reports, publications, patents, or concept developments relevant to Rockwell Automation products and customer solutions. Candidates must be capable of working independently, as well as directing design and analysis activities of others, while performing engineering or scientific investigations of varying complexity. Candidates must have a familiarity with the new product development process, and a proven track record of successfully translating concepts into new products.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
15 years of experience in embedded hardware design
Demonstrated experience in conceiving, planning and performing research which has had a considerable influence on next generation portfolios and/or new product developments
Demonstrated skills in the hardware development process, including concept development & evaluation, design specification, circuit simulation, prototype build & debug, product qualification & test documentation
Experience in the following:
Microprocessor or microcontroller-based embedded system design
Current & Voltage Sensing techniques
Analog circuit design, including analog filter design and antialiasing filter design
Switching power supply design and test
Motor Protection and Power Quality & Energy Management
Electromagnet Switching concepts, technologies, and techniques
Design and test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic and digital signal analyzers
Familiarity with embedded firmware development tools and processes
Familiarity with mechanical development CAD and simulation tools and processes
Familiarity with packaging designs for electrical & electronic devices, including design for mechanical robustness, EMC, and thermal considerations
Demonstrated examples of high level design documentation, Functional Requirement Specifications, and hardware & product test specifications
Demonstrated expertise as a Project Engineer/leader of a multi-discipline project team for new product development, thorough attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines
Ability to multitask and navigate large amounts of data & details
Quick-learning self-starter who works well with a dynamic team
Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
Familiarity with Functional Safety development process, specifications, and design
Familiarity with applicable IEC & UL Low Voltage Switchgear standards, including the EN/UL 60947-x series
Familiarity with applicable Power & Energy Management standards, including IEEE 519, EN62053, ANSI C12.20, and EN61000-4-x series
Experience with single and three phase industrial electrical systems and motors
Experience in the following:
Digital circuit design, with an emphasis on maintaining signal integrity in difficult EMC environments
Typical embedded control peripherals (ie. RAM, Flash, FPGA, SPI, I2C, UART, PWM, A/D and D/A converters, CAN)
Ethernet hardware design and test, from the core processor to the Ethernet physical layer
High density, high speed multi-layer printed circuit board design
Bus architectures & inter-processor communication strategies
Experience with Mentor Graphics/Expedition schematic entry
Experience with Design for Six Sigma tools
Familiarity with SAP for product data management and/or enterprise resource planning
Familiarity with Rockwell Automation products including Allen-Bradley Logix controllers and connected components, and/or other industrial control equipment
