The University of Pittsburgh's Computing Services and Systems Development (CSSD) Department is seeking a qualified Telecom Service Delivery Technician II.
Duties: -Installs, moves, modifies and configures data and telephony equipment and related cabling (both copper and fiber), according to job order specifications, standards, and procedures. -Diagnoses cabling (both copper & fiber) that may be causing equipment malfunctions. Repairs voice and data equipment cabling. -Establishes the time and cost estimates. Maintains accurate records of staff hours and materials used. -Reports and monitors service Moves, Adds, and Change Order requests. -Maintains and repairs telecommunications cabling and equipment according to manufacturer recommendations, industry standards, and specifications. -Performs additional functions incidental to technician activities. -Oversees, instructs, and coordinates activities of construction staff. -Updates and maintains network utilizing CSSD standards and specifications.
Skills and abilities include: -Ability to work independently -Understanding of computer basics is essential -Proven ability to plan and meet deadlines -Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels of staff -Knowledge of computerized ETMS and Ticketing systems -Specific knowledge of features and use of both CISCO network equipment and AVAYA telephony equipment and software configurations -Familiarity with the installation, administrations, and feature use of data, voice, and voicemail systems. -Able to activate data ports at 10/100/100/1Gb based on customer needs and network configurations
This position will carry out a wide range of responsibilities affecting the CSSD Network cabling and equipment services for the University of Pittsburgh. The technician will be responsible for coordinating equipment and cabling activities relating to telephony/data systems installation & maintenance for all work orders and projects in the University environment. This position will be responsible for administering activities and for the scheduling of equipment and cabling installation work. Familiarity with the operation of a computerized telecommunications and data network system is important.
Applicants will need to demonstrate the proper technique to terminate a data/voice cable and will be required to perform some configuration of Cisco interfaces.
Work hours for this position will also include nights and weekends as required, in addition to the normal M-F, 8:30 am 5:00 pm workday. There will also be a rotational On-Call schedule.
PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position
Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience working for an inter-connect company or telephone company in installation, maintenance and administrative capacities. Two years experience in voice/data installation, maintenance and in customer relations with a telephone company or interconnect company. Broad level of experience in data and voice equipment & cabling. Extracts and compiles a range of data from written sources, from individuals, or from one or several given databases, CAD drawings, project specifications, work orders, and/or trouble tickets. Screens complex, technical, or specialized literature for referral. Regular skilled use of complex machines and network testing equipment. Has a working knowledge of the NEC and BICSI codes for cabling, and OSHA requirements for working in confined spaces.
